Why are we still using all those styrofoam trays for our fish and meat!

The energy involved in the creation of a styrofoam tray, along with fossil fuels used, just so we can use it for a few days in packaging is not justified. In the same way we view colonialists cutting down all the native trees and bush, thats how future generations will see us in using up all of these resources - except that it is worse because we are acutely aware of what we are up to.

Short of going hunting yourself, or receiving the spoils of another's hunt, or butchering your own farm animals, the next best stop is the fish monger or local butcher. This is because you can talk directly to the person serving and get them to put the meat into containers you've bought for the purpose.

It is our experience that it very much depends on who you get at either the fish or meat counter in supermarkets as to whether they will agree to avoid plastic and wrap the meat in paper only.

We've never had any problems at the butcher or fish monger. We take our own containers along and they get a tare weight first prior to filling them with whatever we order.
